Installing a code editor
You'll need to write C# code for your project. It's recommended you install an IDE (Integrated Development Environment) or code editor.
Various common options include the following:
- JetBrains Rider (recommended) — free for non-commercial use and built for C#
- Visual Studio Community — classic option with mediocure C# support
- Visual Studio Code — flexible but less suitable for C#
Please choose one of the above options.
If you pick JetBrains Rider, you can continue to installing mod templates.
If you pick Visual Studio Community or Visual Studio Code, please select your option below and follow the instructions to ensure you set it up for C# correctly:
Step 1
Run the VisualStudioSetup.exe installer and go through it until you get to this screen:

You'll want to click on the Individual components tab highlighted above and then select the following components:
- .NET SDK
- .NET Compiler Platform SDK
- MSBuild
- Just-In-Time debugger
- IntelliCode

You should end up with these components listed on the right:

Step 2
Now click the Install button in the bottom right. You might be prompted about workloads like below.
You should select Add Workloads and then click the Install button in the bottom right again.

Visual Studio Community should now install and you'll be able to launch it afterwards.
Once you have installed VSCode and completed the onboarding, open the marketplace tab on the left,
search for the C# Dev Kit and click Install.
